Terms & Conditions

SCOPE OF SERVICES
Services can include photometric review, fixture selection recommendations, and advisement on compliance with relevant standards: IES, IECC, & local ordinances. I am a lighting expert, but not a licensed engineer or architect; my reviews are advisory and do not replace required engineering or architectural approvals.

COMPLIANCE & RESPONSIBILITY
I work to align designs with IES, IECC, and other standards, but ultimate responsibility for code compliance lies with the project’s architect, engineer, or licensed professional of record. Jurisdictional requirements may vary; it is the client’s responsibility to confirm that final plans meet all local, state, and federal codes and ordinances.

LIABILITY & LIMITATIONS
Services are provided “as is”; I am not liable for non-compliance, project delays, costs, or damages resulting from errors in construction documents, installation, or jurisdictional changes. I am not responsible for product availability or discontinuation; the client is responsible for final product choices and procurement. The final light fixture schedule and catalog numbers on sealed documents will take precedence over this review. While I strive for alignment with codes and standards, I cannot guarantee project approval by permitting authorities.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY & CONFIDENTIALITY
All photometric analyses, recommendations, and plans are project-specific and cannot be reused or altered without my permission. Client information is kept confidential; however, reports and recommendations may not be distributed without permission.

SERVICE LIMITATIONS
This is a remote consulting service only; site visits, if requested, will incur additional fees and require a separate agreement. No warranties or guarantees are provided on the quality, function, or safety of installed products, as I am not responsible for installation.

FEES & PAYMENT TERMS
A flat fee payment is due upfront and covers the initial review and feedback as outlined. Additional services beyond the initial scope (e.g., revisions or extended consultations) may incur extra fees. The payment of this fee is acknowledgement of these Terms & Conditions as outlined.

BEST PRACTICE
Verify wiring capabilities & dimming compatibility with your electrician or MEP prior to order. Follow local codes regarding fixture housing requirements prior to order & installation. Lengths to be measured and verified in field prior to order.

PHOTOMETRICS AS REQUIRED
Lighting Lab provides photometric services on an as-needed basis to support project clarity, coordination, and precision. These are ideal for helping design teams visualize light distribution, confirm fixture performance, and integrate lighting seamlessly into construction documentation.

Photometric calculations are performed using AGi32 (or equivalent software), based solely on the architectural and fixture information provided by the client. Each package includes one (1) round of revision. Any additional revisions beyond that scope will incur an added fee, determined by the complexity of the changes. Also included are marked-up fixture cutsheets and a CAD export of the photometric plan for direct integration into your drawings.

Typical turnaround is within 48 business hours from the time we receive complete and accurate files. For projects over 15,000 square feet, or those with added complexity such as custom optics, outdoor zoning requirements, or Title 24 coordination, the delivery timeline will be discussed and confirmed prior to project start.

To get started, clients are responsible for submitting clean, scaled floor plans or reflected ceiling plans, along with confirmed ceiling heights, surface reflectancies, and any notable obstructions. If no layout is requested, a proposed fixture layout must be provided. A complete fixture schedule must also be submitted unless Lighting Lab is providing fixture recommendations.

Calculations are made entirely based on the information provided to us. If any key inputs change during the process — such as ceiling height, layout, or fixture selection — a revised fee may apply. Lighting Lab does not produce stamped or engineered drawings, nor do we verify code compliance unless explicitly scoped. These calculations are intended as a design tool, not final engineered documentation.

While photometrics may not be universally required in all Texas projects, they are a valuable addition to sealed documents for projects where light levels, distribution, and code compliance are necessary to meet regulatory or safety standards. It's best practice to check with the local building department or authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) to confirm specific requirements for each project. For example:

  • Commercial Projects: Photometrics are often required in commercial projects to ensure compliance with local lighting ordinances, especially for outdoor areas like parking lots, pathways, and other exterior spaces. Many cities require photometric plans to confirm compliance with light trespass laws and other zoning requirements.

  • Energy Codes and Compliance: Texas follows the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC), which mandates specific lighting power allowances and efficiencies. Photometric plans can help verify compliance with these energy standards.

  • Site-Specific Requirements: Some jurisdictions or particular project types (such as schools, government buildings, or healthcare facilities) may have stricter requirements and require photometric studies to be part of the construction documentation.
